What if there were no denials?

Really, think about it for a moment. What would it mean to providers if they were able to virtually eliminate both claim denials and slow/partial reimbursements? How much more productive would your staff be if they didn’t have to waste time reworking claims that were delayed or denied? What would it mean for your revenue cycle if you could count on your payments arriving more quickly, every time?

It would mean outstanding business office performance, that’s what it would mean. Yet we understand that to many, this sounds too good to be true. We don’t think it is, and here’s why.

Consider what’s at the heart of the challenges outlined above: incorrect, untrustworthy data. Submit a claim and the patient demographic information isn’t right? Back it comes. Wrong code? Yours again to rework. You get the picture.

Well, we’ll say it again—in healthcare, clean data drives everything. Your revenue cycle performance. Your business processes. The quality of your reporting, and more.

So what if you knew your data was clean every time, and you could be confident in it before you submitted your claims? What if there were a predictive solution that, unlike any other, delivered a level of automation that fixed claim issues before they were submitted—without manual interaction? It would be a little easier to be confident then, right?

Still, we know that this level of aspiration is difficult to conceive of in an industry where so many providers are suffering the revenue cycle effects of slow reimbursements and outright denials, and even considering this possibility seems foolhardy.

We don’t blame you. And truthfully, to think that you could eliminate all denials that are based on things other than bad data (i.e., things outside your control) would be going too far. But why not shoot for total elimination of the denials that are caused by bad data—something that is now firmly within your control?

Why not consider that possibility? Still too much?

Well, what would the world be like if Newton had simply eaten the apple without more fully contemplating it’s fall from the tree? What if Bell had been impatient and hung up before Watson answered the phone? What if Franklin had kept his kite and his curiosity inside that fateful night, choosing not to brave the elements outside?

In all seriousness, if we agree that lessening these healthcare revenue challenges is a possibility, then why not aim for complete elimination of these issues? Why not aim high and go for it all? We know it’s a lofty goal, but we do think it’s possible.

Who knows, maybe we can get there together.
